Providing economic opportunity, food security and a safe environment for future generations requires leadership at all levels of society. Winrock has long made it a top priority to equip emerging leaders, particularly women and girls, with the skills, opportunities and networks of support they need to succeed in their communities and beyond.
Economic and cultural barriers have kept far too many African girls from pursuing an education. This has prevented the women themselves, and the continent as a whole, from reaching their potential. This USAID-funded program provided scholarships to tens of thousands of disadvantaged girls and enabled them to create better futures by staying in school. The program also included mentorship and leadership development training that has helped create a new generation of role models for African girls.
