Cashew Nut Production and Marketing
Location: Guinea
Assignment Number: GUI295
Volunteers Requested: 1
Recruiter: Jennifer Robinson | Jennifer.Robinson@winrock.org | 501.280.3018
Winrock International requests the support of a Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer for a 15-day volunteer assignment (including travel) located in Boke, Guinea. The volunteer will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to support sustainable cashew nut production and marketing. This includes understanding the cultivation process, implementing best farming practices, and addressing challenges related to pests, diseases, and climate conditions. He/she will help participants learn effective marketing strategies for local and international markets, emphasizing the importance of branding and certifications for market positioning.
More than ten years ago, climate conditions presented challenges for cashew nut production, including irregular rainfall patterns in the region causing excessive heat, thereby preventing increased yields sustainably. This negatively affected producers in this region, as they had limited knowledge of effective marketing strategies for both local and international markets, leading to a struggle to position their products competitively in the market.
The volunteer should have the following qualifications and background:
·
A bachelor’s or preferably a master’s degree in agriculture,
agribusiness, international development, business administration, or a related
field.
·
A minimum of 10
years of experience in the agricultural sector, preferably focusing on cashew
nut production, processing, or marketing, would be highly advantageous.
·
Previous work in international development, particularly in developing
countries where cashew nuts are a significant agricultural commodity.
·
In-depth knowledge of the cashew nut value chain, including cultivation
practices, post-harvest processing, and marketing strategies.
· French language skills preferred, but a translator will be provided if needed.
