Jamaica-U.S. Child Protection Compact (CPC) Project

The United States Department of State and the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) pledged in 2018 to jointly prevent and respond to child trafficking in Jamaica. The U.S. government supports Winrock International as well as partners Lawyers Without Borders and the University of the West Indies to carry out protection and prevention activities under this partnership. Together with the GOJ and civil society actors, the project is standardizing protocols, referral procedures, and data collection for a streamlined response to child trafficking. Winrock works with the GOJ to ensure anti-trafficking policies and services are responsive to and considerate of the unique physical, social, and emotional impact that victims of trafficking may experience. Winrock trains government officials and service providers to more effectively identify instances of child trafficking and respond in a way that is suited to the needs of the child, safeguards the rights of the child, and encourages participation of the child in the decision-making process. The CPC project also engages communities and local leaders to raise awareness and ultimately put an end to child trafficking in Jamaica.
