For Immediate Release

Date: June 25, 2018

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security, in collaboration with Winrock International and Lawyers Without Borders, will be launching the CLEAR II project in Jamaica on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at the Terra Nova All Suite Hotel. CLEAR II is a global project being implemented in six countries.

Honourable Shahine Robinson, Minister of Labour and Social Security will deliver the keynote address at the launch, which is scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m.

Through CLEAR II, Winrock and Lawyers Without Borders will work with the ministry to reduce child labor through the following intermediate objectives:

  1. Improvements in legislation addressing child labor issues, including bringing national laws into compliance with international standards;
  2. Improvements in monitoring and enforcement of laws and policies related to child labor;
  3. Effective implementation of national plans of action on child labor.

CLEAR II activities in Jamaica will focus on the development of light and hazardous work lists, a child labor prosecution training of trainers, the development of a National Action Plan (NAP) to combat child labor, organization of a NAP child protection collaboration workshop and coordination plan, and support for a study on street children.

This project is funded by the United States Department of Labor, under a cooperative agreement with Winrock International.
