Uganda has experienced conflict for most of its post-independence period, uprooting and displacing millions of people. War has created significant setbacks in education, democratic participation and other sectors fundamental to economic, political and social development. As such, Winrock has worked to create income-generating job opportunities, increase government services, and lay the foundations for long-term development in areas of war-torn northern Uganda. Winrock’s diverse history in the Sub-Saharan African nation has also ranged from analyzing agricultural greenhouse gas emissions to providing scholarships and mentoring programs for girls and women to promote their involvement in the improvement of their homeland.
