Burkina Faso, a land-locked nation in the Sahel of Africa, has enjoyed a relatively long period of peace and security, as opposed to many of its neighbors in the region. However, its people still face many challenges, including poverty, inequity for women and youth, and vulnerability to climate change. Winrock’s projects in the West African nation have promoted increased participation of women and girls in the educational, political and economic activities of their home country. Other project work includes the introduction of multiple-use water services that enable poor rural households to improve their health, hygiene, food security and income.
