Empowering ONG La Lumière Women through Natural Food Processing

Winrock International is seeking a Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer to provide support for a 19-day assignment in Kedougou, Southeastern Senegal. The volunteer will train ONG La Lumière women groups on fruit and vegetable processing and preservation, focusing on good practices and improved processing techniques and technologies. Particular emphasis will be placed on processing fruits and vegetables using natural methods, such as food safety and hygienic practices. The NGO is particularly interested in making homemade preserves, jams, and juice and is looking for alternatives to the chemical spices currently used in their cooking. The volunteer will be responsible for teaching the women how to make natural bouillon, which will improve the community’s health and provide a source of income.

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications and background:

·       Bachelor’s degree or higher in agriculture, food science, or related field.

·       Experience using modern and efficient equipment for fruit and vegetable processing and preservation.

·       Ten years’ experience in fruit and vegetable processing, including experience training others in this topic.

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·       French language skills preferred but not mandatory.
