Poultry Production and Management Techniques

Location: Bakel department, Region of Tambacounda

Assignment Number: SEN364

Volunteers Requested: 1

Recruiter: Sherri Kabaou | SKabaou@winrock.org | 501.280.3019

Winrock International is seeking a Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer for a 19-day assignment (including travel) in Bakel, located in Southeastern Senegal, near the borders with Mauritania and Mali. The volunteer will develop training materials and enhance the capacities of women’s groups within the Union, focusing on poultry production and farm management.

BAKHPU aims to address market demands and empower these women to expand their poultry ventures as a source of income. The poultry subsector presents substantial opportunities for women and youth, given the existing market potential in the livestock sector and possible job creation.

Members of these women’s groups have been engaged in poultry farming for several years and are keen to boost and refine their production capabilities. Currently managing operations of 100 chicks or more, they are focused on both meat and egg production. Additionally, they are eager to learn ways to improve their hen houses to create more suitable and efficient environments for poultry farming.

The volunteer should have the following qualifications and background:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in animal science, poultry expert or another related field.

Strong experience in poultry production and poultry farm management, including experience training others.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

French language skills preferred but not mandatory. A translator will be provided.
