Integrated Pest and Disease Management

Winrock International has issued a request for a Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer to provide support for a 20-day volunteer assignment, including travel, in Orkadiere, Kanel, Matam in Northern Senegal. The role of the volunteer will be to train the Debbo Galle women groups and their male counterparts in Integrated Pest and Disease Management. This training will enable them to combat attacks on their perimeters in a natural manner. The volunteer will provide practical application training on the techniques for Integrated Pest and Disease Management. This will help the women protect their seedbeds and growing areas, identify different groups of crops for better planting, improve soil fertility through crop rotation and association, and ultimately, increase production. Furthermore, the volunteer will train groups on the importance and use of bio-pesticides, the safe use of chemical pesticides to protect farmers and soil health, the safe handling of chemical pesticides (including storage, mixing, transport, and application), proper preparation and use of bio-pesticides, and recognition of beneficial insects to encourage their development within the perimeters.

The volunteer should have the following qualifications and background: 

Master’s degree or higher in horticulture, agriculture, or similar fields 

Experience in the field of agricultural education and training with a focus in horticulture and the application of pest and disease management

Training/teaching experience in Integrated Pest and Disease Management

Experience training adults preferred, particularly women

French language skills are preferred but not mandatory; an interpreter will be provided
