Good Agricultural Practices in Horticulture

Winrock International is seeking the assistance of a Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer for a 17-day volunteer assignment that is situated in Gourel Hadji, Kanel, Matam, Northern Senegal. The primary aim of this assignment is to provide training to women on the techniques of nursery and soil preparation, plant transplantation, water usage and management, application of organic matter, and control of pests and diseases. The training will focus on various horticultural products, including tomato, hot pepper, cabbage, eggplant, cucumber, okra, radish, watermelon, moringa (seeds and powder), onions, hibiscus, okra, and cowpea.
The Kawral Rewbe Gourel Hadji women will be provided with Good Agricultural Practices training to assist them safely and sustainably produce vegetables in their perimeter. The training aims to maximize yields, optimize business operations, minimize production costs, and reduce environmental impact.
The volunteer selected for this assignment should have a background and qualifications that align with the following:
• Master’s degree or higher in horticulture, agriculture, or similar fields
• Experience in the field of agricultural education and training with a focus on horticulture and the application of Good Agricultural Practices
• Experience in developing countries with tropical environments preferred
• Training/teaching experience in Good Agricultural Practices
• Experience training adults preferred
• French language skills are preferred but not mandatory; an interpreter will be provided
