Managing An Agricultural Business
Location: Labe
Assignment Number: GUI299
Volunteers Requested: 1
Recruiter: Jennifer Robinson | Jennifer.Robinson@winrock.org | 501.280.3018
Winrock International requests the support of a Farmer-to-Farmer
volunteer for a 15-day volunteer assignment (including travel) in Labe, Guinea.
The volunteer will work with the Federation of Arboriculturists Of Fouta
Djallon (Federation Des Arboricultures Du Fouta Djallon in French) to engage
participants in learning strategies to manage an agriculture business
successfully.
The federation lacks the knowledge and skills required to manage
agricultural businesses effectively. This deficiency leads to inefficient
practices and potentially lowers productivity. Not only does this challenge
result in missed opportunities for members to learn best practices in
agricultural business management, but inadequate training may also lead to
unsustainable agricultural practices. These practices include improper tree
care and cultivation techniques, which could degrade soil quality, reduce crop
yields (such as pepper, tomato, eggplant, okra, etc.), and harm the environment
over time.
The volunteer should have the following qualifications and background:
·
University degree
in
Arboriculture, Forestry, Agricultural Sciences, or a related field.
·
Previous
involvement in launching or managing startups, understanding the challenges and
strategies involved in the early stages of a business.
·
Substantial hands-on experience in arboriculture,
preferably with a focus on orchard management, tree care, and cultivation
practices.
·
Proven expertise in tree health, pest and disease
management.
·
Experience
working in developing countries (particularly in West Africa) is desired.
·
French language
skills preferred, but a translator will be provided if needed.
