Winrock's Volunteer Technical Assistance Programs

Winrock's Volunteer Technical Assistance (VTA) unit has more than 17 years of experience implementing short-term volunteer technical assistance that creates lasting enterprise- and sector-level impacts. Since 1991, 1,938 Winrock volunteers have completed more than 4,400 assignments in 50 countries, impacting approximately 7.7 million people. Winrock volunteers work directly with local farmers, business people and other host-country organizations, providing expertise in a variety of areas including agriculture and agribusiness, cooperative and NGO development, credit and banking, non-timber forest products, wood processing and biomass, ecotourism, general business development, information technology and other service industries.

Winrock is a leading implementer of the USAID John Ogonowski Farmer-to-Farmer program, and has been at the forefront of market-oriented agricultural development for more than 20 years. Winrock collaborates with local, regional, national and multi-national partners to conduct value-chain analyses, identifying end-market opportunities and key weaknesses in the value chains linking producers to markets. Working through these local partners, Winrock interventions address those weaknesses by helping producers better understand commodity value chains and use that knowledge to improve their operations. Primary areas of assistance include obtaining access to inputs, providing technical assistance with production, processing, and transportation, and creating more efficient market linkages.
