Thailand's Wind Resources

RATIONALE
General Electric is exploring the possibility of investing in large-scale wind farms in Thailand. Early assessments indicate that there is a strong potential for such projects. Winrock has been assisting GE with on-site wind measurement since early 2009. GE now requires assistance in the preparation of commercial proposals and the implementation of viable wind projects.

Under this extension project one professional 60-meters wind measurement tower set will be monitored with the goal to obtain 2 years of wind data as a preparation for further wind park development.

OBJECTIVES
The main objective is to carry out wind resource assessments, including due diligence on existing towers, in order to evaluate wind energy potential for large-scale wind farm development. Moreover the wind resource will be reviewed in the light of existing renewable energy (RE) regulations in countries. It is also foreseen that prospective private sector development partners of GE will be involved in this extension phase of the project.

ACTIVITIES
Winrock will work in close cooperation with GE Thailand to assist on detailed assessment of sites, wind potential, and commercial viability of the project.
