Studying Africa's Carbon Market Opportunities

RATIONALE
To develop in a consultative way with selected African countries, a study on carbon market opportunities for the forestry sector in Africa. Present the study in the Seminar on Forests and Climate Change that will be held in Khartoum, Sudan, as a pre-session event of the African Forestry and Wildlife Commission and the Near East Forestry Commission.

OBJECTIVES
To provide the African Forestry and Wildlife Commission with a report and presentation on the opportunities and challenges for the forestry sector of Africa to benefit from carbon market opportunities at local, national, regional, and global levels.

ACTIVITIES
The project will be completed over a period of maximum 4 months. Deliver work plan, including annotated content of the study paper. Draft study paper by January 15, 2008, for due revision and approval by FAO experts; Final paper including an executive summary of no more than 5 pages and a power point presentation of the paper no later than February 5, 2008; Presentation of the paper, and the PowerPoint at the Seminar on Forests and Climate Change to be held in Khartoum, Sudan, February 17, 2008. A final report will incorporate the comments received at the Seminar.
