Capacity Building in Arkansas' Rural Communities
RATIONALEThis is the fifth year Winrock International has received funding from the RCDI program. As in other years, during this funding cycle Winrock International plans to focus on up to 10 non-profit organizations that serve Arkansas through various activities. The work programs of these organizations vary depending on the problems and opportunities addressed where they operate. However, their program activity is limited by the size and capabilities of their staff, access to technical expertise and technology, and their knowledge of federal- and state-funded programs, foundation grants, and private resources. They are also limited by the amount of training their boards have received. Winrock proposes to address the recipients' problems and opportunities by building capacity through training, technical assistance in project development, financial management, and implementation of sub grants.
OBJECTIVES
The goal of the project is to use Winrock's expertise and experience to build the planning, financial management and administrative capacity of the recipients, with the ultimate goal of increasing the recipients' program resources (time and money) by decreasing the amount of time and money spent on such efforts. In addition, this year's program will provide a Continuing Education component to the recipients approved and participating in the program funded under previous years, with emphasis on immediate past participants from program year 2005-2007.
ACTIVITIES
During this 18-month program Winrock, will hold a minimum of four workshops as well as a National Study Tour which the participants may attend. In addition, Winrock will provide mentors in the form of private consultants and Winrock staff members who will assist the participants in identifying areas of need and addressing those needs.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
In order to accomplish this goal, Winrock International will offer the recipients access to the Winrock International Non-Profit Improvement Partnership, a capacity building training system.
