Marketing Specialty Crops

RATIONALE
The primary goal of this project is to find tactical marketing strategies to improve the profitability of minority and limited resource vegetable and specialty crop farmers living in the most economically depressed area of the state, the Delta Region. We propose to accomplish our goal by building on cooperation and collaboration established among regional farmer networks during the last Federal-State Marketing Improvement Program (FSMIP) project. The last FSMIP project was extremely successful, and led directly to the goals and objectives laid out in this proposal. This project will attempt to deliver critical, additional information and assistance to individual farmers using these established networks.

OBJECTIVES
Conduct market research needed for the newly organized network of cooperatives to access markets not ordinarily available to these farmers.

ACTIVITIES
Project activities include developing a database of farmer that meet the standards set for participation and have the land available for growing the specialty crops, developing a database of brokers that would best represent the products, identify trade shows to attend and create a marketing plan for the farmers to promote their products, and create promotional materials.
