Lending a Hand in the Delta
RATIONALEThe primary objectives of this project are to offer technical assistance to vegetable cooperatives to explore forming a federation of cooperatives, and to offer technical assistance to two groups of farmers ready for Phase II of cooperative projects. In addition Arkansas Rural Economics Council (AREC) will offer technical assistance for special projects support for existing AREC established cooperatives, and to work in tandem with Cooperation Works member centers.
OBJECTIVES
Increase income of minority owned and limited resource farmers in rural Arkansas, especially those living in the most economically depressed Delta region of the state, by improving market opportunities and access to new markets for their crops and value-added products.
ACTIVITIES
* Vegetable Growers Cooperative Federation Project * Helena Grain Growers Cooperative Project, Phase II * Landowner Carbon Network Project, Phase II * Continue special projects services to AREC-established Cooperatives, and to assist other existing cooperatives * Offer lessons learned experience to Cooperation Works partners
