Volunteers Provide Technical ExpertiseRATIONALEWinrock International, ACDI/VOCA, and Land O'Lakes formed a Consortium to implement the Farmer-to-Farmer (FTF) Program in Russia. This program aimed to retain its capacity to achieve results at the farm level (its unique people-to-people character) and support the development of agribusiness associations, cooperatives, and business support institutions that form the base of ongoing services to the agribusiness community. Short-term volunteers contributed substantially where the hosts had clearly defined bottlenecks or gaps in agribusiness technologies and management, and organizational development. OBJECTIVES The goal of this USAID project provided assistance in increasing food production and distribution, and improved the effectiveness of farming and marketing operations through the use of a broad range of US agricultural volunteer-experts to work with farmers, agricultural systems, and agribusinesses. ACTIVITIES The consortium focuses on strengthening five components of the producer-to-market agricultural system in Russia: 1. Farm production 2. Post harvest handling 3. Intermediate and final processing 4. Retail and wholesale sales 5. Local and regional markets ACCOMPLISHMENTS A total of 153 assignments have been completed over life of project. |
