| 2006 | | Carbon Storage in the Los Amigos Conservation Concession, Madre de Dios, Peru The Los Amigos Conservation Concession (LACC) was established to protect and conserve a large tract of tropical Amazon forest in Peru, and at the same time to contribute to local development by implementing sustainable productive activities that can generate more employment and income to the population of the zone. Winrock International was asked to describe LACC forest carbon stocks to demonstrate the potential greenhouse gas benefits of conservation. This report provides the methods and results of that study.

| 2006 | | Indonesia Clean Development Mechanism Carbon Project Final Report The overall goal of this project was to assist the Government of Indonesia to increase capacity of Indonesian stakeholders to earn certified emission reduction (CER) units from land use, land use changes and forestry (LULUCF) projects for the removal of greenhouse gases (GHGs) under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol and promote sustainable forest development. This report provides a summary of key accomplishments.
| 2006 | | Protecting the Influence Zone around the Los Amigos Conservation Concession, Madre de Dios, Peru The Asociación para la Conservación de la Cuenca Amazónica (ACCA) has worked hard to establish a vibrant research program at their Los Amigos Conservation Concession (LACC). However, the principal efforts of ACCA over the first five years of the LACC’s life were dedicated to the daunting task of clearing out the remnant timber extraction operations from within. For the longer-term protection of the concession’s biological assets, ACCA now sees the need to consider the complicated actor network and aggressive activities of deforestation agents on its outer periphery. This report builds upon ACCA’s work with the Blue Moon Foundation to identify livelihood options in some of the communities surrounding the LACC.
| 2006 | | Terrestrial Carbon Storage in the Osa Peninsula, Punta Arenas, Costa Rica The Friends of the Osa is an environmental non-profit organization established to preserve the Osa Peninsula’s biodiversity. Located in southwestern Costa Rica, the Osa boasts a large number of unique and distinct tropical forest ecosystems. The Osa Peninsula forest to which this inventory is applied is approximately 121,000 hectares and it has been declared an international hotspot and a high global conservation priority. Winrock International was asked to quantify Osa reserve carbon stocks. This report presents methods and results from the integration of ground and aerial biomass measurements.
| 2006 | | Working Paper: Interpretation of Test Bed Results for the 5-beam Laser and Digital Elevation Model Experiments This Working Paper documents the calibration of a 5-band laser altimeter to the Duncantech multispectral camera and its integration into the Streams5 image and data capture system. The report also documents the design and implementation of a set of experiments utilizing the Winrock calibration table to systematically evaluate comparisons between a series of Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) of a topographic model at simulated growth intervals. Two different types of surface modeling programs, ERDAS LPS and TERREST are also compared for their relative error in reproducing the measured surface of the topographic model and their possible application to forest canopy delineation.
