People all around the world face agricultural
dilemmas that threaten their food security
as well as their economic stability. Winrock
International implements strategies that improve
the capacity of nations to meet the food security
issues of their people, while planning for
continued stability—strategies such as improved
or alternative crops, innovative irrigation
methods and on-farm production, and harvesting
and storage systems. In Niger, for example, lowcost
and locally produced irrigation methods—
such as foot-operated treadle pumps—extend
the growing season, increasing food production
and income as well as improving people's
livelihoods.
